This Privacy Policy describes how the MedLit mobile app (the “App”) handles information. MedLit is developed by Stvya Sharma. For privacy questions, email contact@stvya.com.
Summary
MedLit does not require an account. The current App has no developer-operated account, advertising, analytics, or tracking service. Its saved papers, viewed-paper history, recent searches, and preferences are stored on your device. MedLit does not sync that local data to a MedLit server.
The App connects directly to NCBI to retrieve PubMed and PubMed Central content. NCBI receives the request information needed to provide that content and handles it under its own policies. Opening an external publication or DOI link also connects you to the destination you choose.
Information stored on your device
MedLit stores complete records for papers you save and papers you view in a local SQLite database. It also stores recent searches and search settings, plus a preference for the paper-detail action control, in local app storage. These records can include article titles, abstracts, authors, identifiers, publication details, and the time a paper was saved or viewed.
You can remove a saved paper in the App. Viewed-paper history does not currently have a separate clear control. Deleting the App removes its local data from the device, subject to your device's backup and restore settings. MedLit does not provide an account-based data export or deletion request because it does not hold an account copy of this data.
Information sent to NCBI
When you load the latest papers, search, request spelling suggestions, open paper details or available full text, or find related papers, the App sends requests to NCBI's E-utilities service. Depending on the action, a request may include your search terms and filters, PubMed or PubMed Central identifiers, pagination and sorting choices, the App's tool identifier, and a developer contact email configured for NCBI API use. Standard network information, such as your IP address and request time, is also available to NCBI and network providers.
These requests are made from your device, not through a MedLit account service. NCBI and NLM process information under their web and privacy policies.
External links and sharing
If you open a PubMed page, a DOI link, a publisher page, or another external destination, that service may receive your IP address, browser information, cookies, and other request data according to its own policies. If you copy a citation, the text goes to your device clipboard. If you share a paper, the link goes to the destination you select through your device's share controls.
Other services and children
MedLit does not use personal information for targeted advertising or sell it. The App is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their personal information for the developer.
Your operating system and app store may handle information related to installation, updates, backups, and system sharing under their own policies. MedLit does not control those services.
Security and retention
Local App data remains on your device until you remove it using an available App control, delete the App, or the operating system removes it. Device backups may retain a copy according to your backup settings. Network requests use HTTPS; the security and retention practices of NCBI and external sites are governed by those services.
